Game day & festivals
Game day and festivals: a pharmacist’s plan for long days outdoors
Tailgates, ballgames and festivals stretch drinking across a whole afternoon, often in the sun. Here is how to set up the day with Good Spirits and finish it ready for tomorrow.
Key takeaways
- Take two capsules of Good Spirits (650 mg DHM, 200 mg clove extract) with your first drink of the day, and two more the next morning.*
- Day drinking stretches over many hours: eat a real meal first and keep eating through the day.
- Sun and alcohol both add to fluid loss: match every drink with water.
- Line up the ride home before the first drink.
When should you take Good Spirits on game day?
With your first drink, even if that is at 11 a.m. in the parking lot, and again the next morning. Each serving delivers 650 mg DHM, 200 mg clove extract, 100 mg taurine, 100 mg choline and a high-potency B-complex.* For a festival weekend, repeat the routine for each day you drink.
| Ingredient | Per serving | Before + next morning |
|---|---|---|
| DHM (dihydromyricetin) | 650 mg | 1,300 mg |
| Clove extract (Syzygium aromaticum) | 200 mg | 400 mg |
| Taurine | 100 mg | 200 mg |
| Choline (L-bitartrate) | 100 mg | 200 mg |
| B-complex (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12) | High potency | Two servings |
Why does food matter more on a long day?
Day drinking spreads over many hours, sometimes on an empty stomach. Food slows how quickly alcohol is absorbed,[1] so eat a real breakfast or lunch before the first drink and keep eating: the tailgate grill and the festival food trucks are part of the plan.
How much water do you need?
More than usual. Alcohol suppresses the hormone that tells your kidneys to hold on to fluid,[2] and a hot day adds sweat on top of it. Match every drink with a bottle of water and refill at every break.
How do you pace a whole day?
- Count standard drinks. A standard drink is a 12 oz beer at 5%, so tallboys, craft beers and festival cups are often more than one.[3]
- Choose lighter, clearer drinks over dark spirits: darker drinks carry more congeners, which are linked to worse hangovers.[4]
- Take breaks in the shade and switch to water for a round or two.
How do you finish the day well?
Have the ride home lined up before the first drink. At home, drink water and get to bed: alcohol helps you fall asleep but disrupts the second half of the night.[5] Take your second serving of Good Spirits when you wake up, with breakfast.*
What does game day look like?
| When | What |
|---|---|
| Before you head out | A real meal; the ride home planned |
| First drink | 2 capsules of Good Spirits: 650 mg DHM, 200 mg clove extract, taurine, choline, B-complex |
| Through the day | A water for every drink, food, shade breaks |
| End of the day | Water, the ride home, an early night |
| Next morning | 2 more capsules, water and breakfast |
DHM does not sober you up, it does not make it safe to drive, and it is not a reason to drink more. Enjoy the game.
Common questions
When should I take Good Spirits at a tailgate?
With your first drink, whatever time it is, and two more capsules the next morning.*
How many capsules do I need for a three-day festival?
Four for each day you drink: two with your first drink and two the next morning, so 12 for three days. A 40-capsule bottle covers ten days.
Is one beer the same as one drink?
A 12 oz beer at 5% alcohol is one standard drink. Tallboys, stronger craft beers and large festival cups are often more.
